Active vacation in and around Algund
Unlimited possibilities
Hiking, cycling, swimming, playing golf, going on excursions with the whole family or simply exploring the area: Algund near Merano and its surroundings offer many possibilities for your leisure activities.
Here are our tips:
The "Waale" are ancient, man-made watercourses that in some areas are still used today to irrigate fields and meadows. Derived from larger watercourses, man-made channels carry the water along the mountain slopes at a slight gradient. Along the way, small sluice-like cut-offs allow the water to be directed to the plots of land of individual owners. The allocation of the water quantity is determined in a separate Waal-statute. A person specially appointed by the farmers to look after and supervise the Waales, the Waaler, had control over the Waales and the distribution of water. The "Waale" as an irrigation system are still contemporary and of great economic importance. The narrow paths along these rivulets invite recreationists to hike and take photographs.
There are countless possibilities in Algund and the surrounding area to explore the beautiful landscape by bike and to do something for your health. Whether its through vineyards and orchards with your road or city bike, or over forest paths and alpine pastures with your mountain bike, the area has something to offer for all levels of difficulty. A newly built bike path from Reschenpass to Salurn, almost completed, is the paradise of all bikers.
For a fee, bike and mountain bike rentals are available at the tourist office.
Along the unique "Waalweg", past waterfalls and clear mountain lakes, up to the discovery site of the "Ötzi". About 160 km of well-signposted hiking and walking trails promise vacation pleasures and alpine mountain experiences. Our tip: guided hikes with the Alpine Club and adventure tours with Hans Kammerlander in the Nature Park Texelgruppe.
